I bought this really cute dress today, only I feel a little uncomfortable in it because it is above the knee (it cuts off exactly at the tops of my knees). Do you think it would look weird if I sewed extra fabric onto it to make it longer? It is green and dark purple with a hot pink belt and little pink leaves spread out on the fabric. I thought maybe I could find some hot pink lacy fabric to sew onto the bottom of the dress to add 3 or 4 inches? Would that look dumb? Should I not even bother and just return the stupid dress? lol

I could see this going either way. Alot would depend on your skill as a seamstress. If you can match the color you want to add, you could try sewing it on up underneath, so it hangs down free like an "underskirt", you know? So it's not attached right at the bottom. Or possibly even make a second skirt that achieves the same effect. This would also depend on the dress itself. The style of the dress might not look right with the underskirt thing going on.

You could try to sew on a ruffle just to see what it would look like or maybe even slits up one side or both sides and straight you could experiment if you really like the dress-maybe longer and pointed on one side and come up with a new style. Don't cut the dress fabric so if it does not suit you you can take it back. Sew first with big stitches easy to remove until you are pleased. Why not use your imagination! If you never use your imagination then what good is it to you

Take it with you to the fabric store and lay the lace under the hem to see if it suits, perhaps you'll find something else that matches the fabric type better in the same hot pink. I'm wondering if lace will look like your slip is showing, not that that's necessarily unattractive. Depends on the dress.

Maybe you'd feel more comfortable if you wore good quality tights, instead of panty hose?

Go find some frabic and just see if the dress would look good with the other fabric. And if not keep it, and rock it cause in the end it's the person that makes the dress. Or just return the dress maybe it's some cuter dresses out there.

I think the dress sounds fine with its length, but if you are uncomfortable, then I would take it back unless you feel you can doctor it without making it look tacky. I would say yes to the lace, but you dont want any lace just because it matches the pink... it would really have to go with the flow of the dress, which just sounds really cute like it is by the way.

If the dress is just above your knee and you add 3 to 4 inches it will be in a length that really doesn't look good.
But why did you buy it in the first place? didn't you try it on before you paid for it?
girl if it looked good at the store why shouldn't it look good at home just wear it and be happy or return it..

For my friend's prom she bought a red tube top dress except it was a little too short for her so what she did to add something no one else would have is she bought the type of fabric they use under wedding dresses or prom dresses, its a little stiff and it looks like a net and she bought it in black it looked awesome..Good luck

Eh, it probably wouldnt look that good, and you'd have a hard time matching the fabric. No ones gonna care if it's a little short as long as you're not in danger of exposing 'yourself' if you know what i mean. If your really uncomfortably in it just return it and get something longer.

Ruffles are big this year. Maybe you could add a ruffle in one of the colors in the dress. It really doesn't sound too short, though. I would leave it alone.

you could pin it - see what it looks like - and then sew it - and if you don't like it - then just unpick it.

If you don't like it the way it is then you will never wear it ,, so you might as well change it
