In what old 90's show/movie was there that weird purple goo monster that froze ppl in purple ice?

I remember one part it slid down a stair banister about to attack these people when they weren't looking. It's something that really scared me when I was little so I've been trying to figure out what it was.

the purple people eater movie i saw it once. was incrediably weird. the blob put people in green slime not purple..t he purple people eater was purple
