The floor at my school appears to be regular hardwood. I don't know what the problem is. I just bought two new pairs, one of them was a bargain deal on some K-Swiss basketball shoes and the others were the Gilbert Arenas shoes. Neither of them grip very well and it takes from my quickness. Nobody else seems to be having this problem. I don't know if its me or the shoes. Has anyone ever encountered this while playing and do you know of any remedies, like can I rub something on the bottom of my shoes to help them grip better? Or do I just need to get new shoes and if so what do I look for when buying them so I know they grip well to the floor.

Try using cola, but don't apply to much or you'll have too much traction and you might injure yourself

easy
spit on the floor rub your shoes on it
until you feel the sole of your shoe sticks grip with the wood

either the wood is crappy
or too waxed

then you just gotta mop the gym floor
but the water on the ground works just fine
you need your shoe to be wet for friction
or else you'll slide and thats not good

Wipe the bottom of your shoes with spit, sweat or water....during a game you may not have to get a towel with water on it so wipe the dirt off the sole then spit on your hand and wipe the sole of your shoes with it ...it really works or even your sweat

try to throw water on the floor from the fountains and step on it. That should help. I do that before every game!

Spray hairspray onto the bottoms of them; hairspray is just adhesive enough to allow for some grippage.
