This Film Is Not Yet Rated" interviews the only two members of the MPAA ratings board to ever break their confidentiality agreements publicly: Jay Landers, board member 1995-2000, and film critic Steven Farber, who wrote a book about his experiences on the board in the early 1970s. The MPAA claims that the ratings board is comprised of "average American parents" who have children aged 5-17. Kirby Dick hired private investigator Becky Altringer of Ariel Investigations to find out who these people are. They are considerably more affluent and older than most American parents of school-aged children -and most of them don't have school-aged children. Their values are decidedly bourgeois and their standards conspicuously fickle. Some more sleuthing uncovered the secrets of the Ratings Appeals Board also.
