Probably not a great deal really. It allowed people to find an acceptable, unchallengeable, and generally authoritative source for their more base assumptions about race. The Bible has a great facility to justify just about any horror given half a chance. A powerful tool in the hands of the ignorant.

I believe so. The myth states that the Sons of Ham, will be cursed and blackened for their sins. Some racial theorists and slavery supporters use this as an excuse for slavery.
