I don't know. I wonder about that myself. But at the same time, I feel that if I do find someone I want to commit to forever, I want to make that promise to that person and God. But not to the government also. For what? But a lot of heteros are giving marriage a really bad name. People are getting married and divorced for the dumbest reasons.

It sure is in my book.

22 years in May and happier than ever.

Marriage is as relevant as you want it to be. Like any relationship, sometimes they are fan-freakin-tastic, sometimes they're a pain.

Usually those days that they seem a pain, I discover I'm cranky because I'm coming down with a cold, or nuts with PMS.

All I do know is those negative moments are fleeting and far outweighed by all the love we've shared over the last two decades.

I think the sentiment behind committing fully to one other is still the ideal, for all my friends and family it is.
However the piece of paper, and the rings, and the til death do us part is all hangover from archaic rituals of man owning woman.
Have a look at real life ( ie divorce rates ) , commit for as long as your love lasts, and you both truly feel you are the one for each other.Be able to part as friends if the relationship doesn't last a lifetime.
Special consideration should be given to children and their needs in the event of separation, and if you can go into a truly loving and wonderful life together respecting each other then you must be able to go out of it with that degree of co-operation. We are adults ,yes?.

I think it is very relevant. Once you take someones name, you become a unit. You give your children your family name. You can buy monogrammed sheets and stuff. In all seriousness, though, for me marriage is a validation of love and unity. Two people can choose to spend their lives together without getting married, but once it becomes a legality it's more validated in our society.

Yes it always has been. Marriage will forever be relevant and sacred its just the people that enter into the marriage that make it irrelevant.

i think it's still relevant to the people who believe in commitment

but if you just want to be together and not get married, i don't give a f*ck, that sh*t is all good. most people get into a crappy marriage and then get divorced. so mostly marriage is b.s. it depends on the people involved.

It is the most wonderful thing in the world to find someone to share the rest of your life with. But most people give up too soon!

Marriage? Isn't that when two people agree to live together so they can claim each other on their taxes?

Absolutely. I cannot imagine not being married. And, anyone raised in a church will tell you that living together without marriage is a sin - but that's not my business one way or another!
