we live in a new development and there is construction still going on in the area. Also, there is a farm across the street. With that, and the construction, our little development has developed a gopher problem. We have landscaped our backyard, but the gophers are eating all of our plants! (and putting holes in our less then 2 year old lawn) What can I replant in the spring that will look pretty but not be attractiveto the gophers? Short of firebombing our yards, there is no way to get rid of them since the farm will always be across the street. Help!!

any members of the SPURGE (Euphorbia) family are unappealing to gophers.there are many beautiful members in this flower family such as euph. polychroma-(cushion spurge)-beautiful bright yellow spring colored leaves that turn greenish blue later in the summer (16" tall); euph. griffithii "fireglow"--bright orange leaves in spring and beautiful red fall color. there are many other euphorbias available, all with beautiful bracts and leaves, check out you local greenhouses.
gophers hate these plants as they exude a bitter white sap when bitten. these plants like sun and heat.
the only sure fire method i know of to rid your yard of gophers is to get 1 or 2 cats. it works for us on our farmyard,

The only thing that they have never touched in all my years, and that's a lot, are daffodils. They even take out Gopher Purge. It would be best to find a way to get rid of them. Good luck.
