After my divorce (my son was 2), I went 10 years without a date.
My Valentine's Days consisted of the handmade Valentine's from my Son.
Instead of the cup being half empty (no Valentine) think of the cup as half full!
Give Valentines to the people around you!
One year I got to the office early and put Hersey's Kisses on everyone's desk anonymously.
I was the first person asking who left the Kisses so no one ever knew it was me. But I sure enjoyed the "Mysterious Office Valentine" conversation all day!
p.s. I am now happily married for 4 years! Once I stopped worrying about not having that "certain someone" and decided to live for me and me son, guess what happened!

I think that Valentine's is sort of an unfair holiday. It shouldn't even be a holiday because you should express love and affection to your bf/gf anyday of the year, one day shouldn't be assigned for that.
to answer your question I am feeling lonely too ): sorry your boyfriend is in another country..I am lonely because I don't have a boyfriend at all...and it seems like everyone around me has found love.....Valentine's will be lonely for me because it's another reminder that I'm still single.
Wishing the best of luck to you

U are lonely by choice because, you don't have to be.There are things that you and, your mate can still do to make Valentines Day special. You can send each other a gift through the mail. You can e-mail each other if you both have a computer because, there are lot's of free e-cards available. If you have cellphones, you can send text messages to each other.Just be creative because,I am sure you don't want him to be down and out and,vice-versa-Good Luck!

I could not be farther from your situation. However, I've been there. I once got my ear pierced on Valentine's day because I had nothing better to do. Just remember that this is a crappy Hallmark holiday and has no bearing on love. It's about money. Just remember to treat your loved ones right all year round and this day will seem like less of a bummer! You don't celebrate "Sweetest Day" do you? Exactly. :)
Happy V-Day!

First, let me say, I love Justine's answer above. (Especially the offer at the end. How sweet!)
As for me, I am painfully lonely. My wife left me about three years ago this month, (thankfully not on Valentine's Day *shuddering at the thought*) and I haven't been able to even think about approaching anyone else romantically since, so Valentine's Day is really tough for me. (Maybe I'll take a tip from Justine and find a friend to be my valentine.) :)
Thanks for bringing this up, Daringsham. Talking about it (even like this) with someone who understands really helps!
Wishing you love and happiness,
~wuz

I'm always lonely on valientines day, I swear it's a curse, And it is so unfair for people thats lonely. (No Offence to gay dudes or lesbians) But for crying out loud the only people that are happy on valentines day are either gay or lesbians. Why can't we be happy like that?. I guess I shall never know but one things for sure, The cookie dough company will love me!

dont worry about it, its just another day. if they are in another country is it due to being in an armed service? if so, then you should be damned proud! they are going through a lot. make the most of the day, treat it like any other.
