God Bless The USA by Lee Greenwood

If tomorrow all the things were gone
I'd worked for all my life,
And I had to start again
with just my children and my wife,
I'd thank my lucky stars
to be living here today,
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom
and they can't take that away.

I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota
to the hills of Tennessee,
Across the plains of Texas
from sea to shining sea.
From Detroit down to Houston
and New York to L.A.,
There's pride in every American heart
and it's time we stand and say:

I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

The Dance by Garth Brooks
Looking back
On the memory of
The dance we shared
Beneath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye

And now I'm glad I didn't know the way it all would end
The way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd had to miss the dance

Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I a king
But If I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all

And now I'm glad I didn't know the way it all would end
The way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd had to miss the dance

Yes my life it's better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd had to miss the dance

My vote for the best lyrics in a Christmas carol would "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing" because it summarized and clarifies the Christian message. The tune now used is from the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the invention of the printing press. The words began: "Gutenburg, a grosse man", translated: "Gutenburg, a great man..."

Echoes by Pink Floyd

Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves
In labyinths of coral caves
The echo of a distant time
Comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine

And no-one showed us to the land
And no-one knows the wheres or whys
But something stirs and something tries
And starts to climb towards the light

Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what i see is me
And do i take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best i can

And no-one calls us to move on
And no-one forces down our eyes
And no-one speaks and no-one tries
And no-one flies around the sun

Cloudless everyday you fall upon my waking eyes
Inviting and inciting me to rise
And through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning

And no-one sings me lullabies
And no-one makes me close my eyes
And so I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky

Set me off like dynamite strapped tight around my waist
We are the ones in competition but claim this ain't no race

(Let's go!)

Take a breath and explode like bullets tearing through the wind
Cut me up with a razor blade that tries to separate the skin

Now in the
White flames of burning flags we
found a world worth dying for, yeah
We've been battered so hard that we don't
feel anymore

Take me
From this world
Save me
What if we
All die young?
So take me
From this world
Save me
What if we
All die young?

Send me off on the morning breeze so far away from here
Feel me rise in the strength I've found inside the warm embracing air
I'm moving slow
Like a glacier melting watch me dissipate
I searched for love in an empty world but all I found was hate

Now in the
White flames of burning flags we
found a world worth dying for, yeah
We've been battered so hard that we don't
feel anymore

Take me
From this world
Save me
What if we
All die young?
So take me
From this world
Save me
What if we
All die young?

Don't ask me why
'Cuz I don't know
Don't ask me how
I'm gonna solve this on my own
Don't ask me why
'Cuz I don't know
These things I've never faced
Scratch out, but won't erase

In the wreckage of a job well done
I saw a place I'd never seen before, yeah
And that moment I refused to close my eyes anymore

So take me
From this world
Save me
What if we
All die young?
So take me
From this world
Save me
What if we
All die young?

So take me [2x]

Blue Swede - Hooked On A Feeling

I can't stop this feeling
deep inside of me.
Girl, you just don't realize
what you do to me.
When you hold me
in your arms so tight,
you let me know
everythings alright
I'm hooked on a feeling
I'm high on believing
that your in love with me.
Lips as sweet as candy.
Their taste stays on my mind.
Girl, you keep me thirsty for another cup of wine.
I got it bad for you girl,
but I don't need a cure,
I'll just stay addicted, If I can endure
All the good love, when we're all alone
Keep it up girl, yeah you turn me on.
I'm, I'm hooked on a feeling.
I'm high on believing that your in love with me.

Here's a personal favorite:
Size of a Cow - The Wonder Stuff

Don't you think it's funny that nothing's what it
seems when you're not looking forward?
Me, I'd like to think life is like a drink,
and I'm hoping that it tastes like bourbon.
You know that I've been drunk a thousand times,
and these should be the best days of my life,
Life, it's not what I thought it was.
Damn blast, look at my past,
ripping up my feet over broken glass.
Oh wow, look at me now,
I'm building up my problems to the size of a cow.
You know it would be strange to life life in a cage,
and only believe the things you see
that are written on the page.
How easy would it be home in time for tea,
and stop feeling like a sailboat rocking on the sea.
You know that It's been sunk a thousand times,
and these should be the best days of my life.
Life, it's not what I thought it was.
Damn blast, look at my past,
ripping up my feet over broken glass.
Oh wow, look at me now,
I'm building up my problems to the size of a cow.

well i'm a guy who isn't huge on pop music, and don't get me wrong i love nearly every genre from classical to thrash metal, modern hip hop to motown r & b, classic rock to emo, electronica to gospel. If i were to find one song i first must pick the genre i like the songwriting out of the most, and for me i guess it is the lyrical empowerment found in the late 60's to mid 70's in classic rock/folk music, i'm a sucker for the woodstock era, janis joplin, jimi hendrix, led zeppelin, pink floyd, eric clapton and so many other greats. for my best song i go to the eagles, a group who was by no means a one hit wonder, they had their first top 20 hit in 1972 with take it easy and several other songs would make the the 20 over the next 35 years. in 1994 they hit #1 for their 6th and final time and accumulated 12 top 20 hits including two #1 hits off their highly regarded hotel california album first with their album's debut single new kid in town and later with one of the greatest songs ever "Hotel California" the album ranks as one of the top selling ever to this day, they also made the top 20 with life in the fastlane hitting #11 on the same album totalling 3 top 20 hits off one album a great feat for any group or album. The feature song from this hit album was possibly the deepest song by this great songwriting quartet and is still regarded as one of the top rock songs of all time. The album went platinum 16 times and appears on nearly every best selling album list made, the album ranks 15th all time, but this fact is skewed, because the greatest selling album ever was the groups greatest hit album which is packed with several great tunes and has gone platinum 28 times nearly 29. here it is

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
'This could be Heaven or this could be Hell'
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...

Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year, you can find it here

Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

So I called up the Captain,
'Please bring me my wine'
He said, 'We haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine'
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...

Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
They livin' it up at the Hotel California
What a nice surprise, bring your alibis

Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said 'We are all just prisoners here, of our own device'
And in the master's chambers,
They gathered for the feast
The stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can't kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
'Relax,' said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
but you can never leave!
