Yes they can usually tell the difference because the color is a little different, plus if they take a blood sample from your arm, they can test it for HCG hormones to see if you were (are) pregnant and that will determine if there is a potential miscarriage or if there is a more serious issue! Plus, a miscarriage will have a lot more blood than a cycle, so there are many facts that they look for in order to tell for sure, plus they test you too. So I think that they have their bases covered.

They can do a blood test to determine if there is pregnancy hormone (hcg) in your blood. You don't necessarily need a D&C just because you have a miscarriage, with early miscarriages the body almost always spontaneously clears any tissue.

yes i went to the doctor because i thought my menstrual was too long and i was cramping longer usual and i was told i was having a threatened miscarriage. test were performed like vaginal, urine and blood.

im sure it depends on how far along you are or were. if you are only a very litte bit along, there isnt much there and you can lose it in the bathroom without even noticing sometimes, and perhaps that early there isnt significant changes inside yet.

Yes, they definitely can. and they must know.
But mostly you go to the experienced ones. Do not go to the ones who just finished school or residency.

yes, if you've had a miscarriage they will have to do an d&c, this is where they go in to the uterus and clean it out.
