They say that god is supernatural and can do absolutely anything. Without magic or illusion, could he make a square into a circle and a triangle into a square? How come he has no control over mankind and the scientific universe?

He can do magic and he has power. It just that he does not want to interfere with mankind's free will..

He has control over mankind and the scientific universe, but sometimes, he chooses not to take control over it. It's not that he can't, but he doesn't. He could change a circle and triangle into a square, afterall, He raised Lazarus from the dead.

Squares, circles and triangles have completely abstract meanings that exist completely in the minds of people, and have nothing to do with the real world. By posing your question in the way you did, you show that you do not understand the basic ideas behind geometry.

Please do not try to apply science to philosophical debates. This kind of pseudoscience gives philosophy a bad reputation in the scientific community. Your question may be a very meaningful one, if you could phrase it more responsibly. However, as is, it must be dismissed as nonsense.

You have pointed out a fundamental and devastating flaw in the god sqaud's pseudo intellectual reasoning.

If god intervenes in the world then it is trivial to detect this (those who do not understand why this is so, bottom of the class). His intervention would necessarily involve altering the behaviour of one or more laws of nature.

If god therefore cannot intervene then firstly you can never have any form of evidence for his existence, and secondly he may as well not be there. On the first point, the god squad would choose to say its a matter of faith and god chooses not to reveal himself in this way. The problem with this argument, as Bertrand Russell pointed out, is that it could also be made for the existence of a small, invisible, supernatural teapot in orbit around the moon. Of course, were you to insist that you believed in the teapot despite the lack of evidence it would be taken as a sign of mental illness. Now why does the same not apply to those who reason the same way in favour of god.

Just because God does not directly influence our lives by performing blatant miracles, like making squares into circles, does not mean he has no control over mankind. On the simplest level, Bush invaded Iraq partly because he believed it was God's will. I'd say that's pretty influential right there.

Believers will say that god does control mankind. But squaring the circle is provably logically impossible, so if god were to do so he would have to repeal the laws of logic. It is similar to the paradox: can god make a rock that is so big that he cannot move it? See also the reference.

If you assume God can do anything, then of course he can do whatever you fill in the blank with, even the logically impossible. But if you cling to logic, you've just proved by indirect argument that God CANNOT do anything. It's illogical to try to have it both ways, but many forms of faith don't pretend to be logical.

Your second question assumes God has no control and then asks why. As a philosopher as well as mathematician, I suggest you examine your assumption closely. If you find reasons for your assumption, you've answered your question. If you don't, why make the assumption?

"Can God make a rock so heavy that he can't lift it?" Come on, you're constructing questions that have no answer. They are logically flawed, and therefore invalid.

God chooses to not exercise control over mankind because he has given us all the gift of free will. God will ultimately judge us based on what we have chosen to do with that free will.

God does have control over the scientific universe. There are plenty of records of miracles in the Bible that defy the laws of science. God wrote the laws of science and most of the time chooses to work within them, but he is not confined by them. What are you looking for? A sign in the stars that says, "I AM GOD, I REALLY DO EXIST!"

Search for the truth, and you will find it. I promise you that.

PRAY DEEPLY, BELIEVING.
Thank God for all he has given you-your loved ones-your job-your car to get to work-your home-your friends-kind people in your life-food-warm clothing.
Ask forgiveness for your sins,
ask for help to improve yourself,
ask for liveable wage jobs for the poor,
ask for the healing of those that are sick or injured or disabled or addicted,
ask for the safety of everyone traveling,
ask for the missing people to be found alive and well,
ask for the wars to end and to bring all the soldiers home alive and well ,
ask for unselfish things,
ask for help for friends or family that are having struggles.

Take note of prayers that have been answered and Thank God for them.
Test your faith in these ways.

Now, get a piece of string, 2 feet long is a workable length.
Now form it into a square, then a circle, then a triangle, then a square again.
That is how easy it is for God , the master of all things , so math and science is natural for him.
He gave man free will.
You cannot force people to believe and love God, it is only real when it comes from your heart.
God is the master of the scientific universe. People have made a confused mess out of everything and blame God.
God is not a religious fanatic. Fanatics are control freaks who try to force others to live and be like themselves and not like God .

Faith and religion do not mix.
Faith is believing in the Truth.
Religion makes rediculous and impractical demands on people's lives. God does not.

If you seek him, you will find him, as the saying goes.

You do good deeds because you like helping others and it can be on a sabbath--you work on the sabbath to save your family or yourself from poverty. Only a fool would let himself or his family go hungry because he would let a religious practice keep him from doing what is needed. Acting out religious practices by attending church regularly doesn't save anybody. Doctors and nurses on duty in emergency rooms can attest to that.

God does not require anything but your belief in Him and all the good that goes with that.

There are many maniacs out there that preach and haven't a clue about truth, intelligence, or the common sense that God gave us.

God encourages us to ask for his help and loves to bestow good things upon those that believe in Him.

How about the mapping of a sphere onto a two dimensional plane? It becomes a triangle under certain circumstances.
How do you know that He has not control? You may be correct in that assumption, but how can you prove it?

God can do anything, but why should He do something so trivial? Isn't it the right of God to do as He pleases? He can control mankind, but limits Himself as He granted man free will also. He did not make man a puppet.
