I separated my pregnant female from the rest of the pack. Whether or not it was necessary, I don't know. I just felt she needed a little privacy. She had 9 babies! They were so cute!!!

This link shows everything you'll want to know and lots of stuff you don't for breeding mice.

Just put the male and female mouse together and seperate them after the female gives birth.

Remove the male once you realize the female is preg or starts to give birth.

Let the female nurse her babies.
dont touch the babies for 4 days after the mom has given birth or she may eat them. Only put your hand in the cage to put some food out for the mom, but leave them undisturbed.

After the 4 days, you can touch the baby mice, dont handel them too much.

At 7 days old, touch the baby mice, but less than 1 hour a day, to get them used to humans.

Do not attempt to clean the cage till 7 days later, you dont want to disturb the mom or babies.

At 2 weeks old, they will start to open their eyes, and to jump. You can handel them more than 1 hour a day now.

after 4 weeks is when they will be weaned from their mom and can start eating kibbles.

between 4 week and 5 weeks, the boys and girl mice should be seperated. You can get an idea about how many males and how many females there are because the females have nipples and the males did not.

At 6-7 weeks they can be adopted or bought (or keep them if you want)

Generally speaking, if a female mouse has been with a male for 24 hours, she will have babies 3 weeks later, like clockwork. The only different result I've had is one that had babies 20 days later instead of 21. For feeder mice, the temperament of the mouse is not important. It is my opinion that this is the reason pet rats and mice are being bred with poor temperaments, and sold as pets or feeders; the seller doesn't care. So, most any mouse can breed feeder mice. For pet mice it is better to breed mice with good health and a good temperament.

I have raise mice. I've never seen them eat their babies. I can say is that If you have enough room in the cages for all the mice they should not bother their mother. But it good to have a place that dark for her to have her babies. To have a artificial cave or box for her to leave her babies while she eats and drinks would be a plus. If they other mice do show excitement around the mother and babies I would put them in another cage.

i used to breed mice. you just have to put them together. you most likely will wind up with her pregnant more than once. they can get pregnant within six to twelve hours of delivery and that most likely will be in the middle of the night while you are sleeping. my male mice never have eaten the babies but it is a good idea to remove him incase she tries to hurt him. do not under any circumstances put her and her babies with the other females. some of my females that didn't have litters would steal them and chances are the other females will kill them or she'll eat them because she figures that they are threatened. do not touch the babies until they have fur and their eyes are opened...better yet until they start running around. when you put them together make sure that they have plenty of food and water and once she starts getting big make sure that hers is always fresh she will need lots of nutrition to support those babies. one of my litters the mom had sixteen babies (although this is not the usual amount) so be prepared to house many mice if you plan on keeping all of them or until you can find homes. they will breed about every three weeks if they are allowed to and reach breeding age at about five weeks so you'll have to sex and seperate the babies before then. you may want to write down the birthdates of your litters so that you know when they have to be seperated and write down the parents names so that you can keep track of the females litters. they tend to develop reproductive problems and cancers if allowed to breed to often. i hope you are not using pine or cedar bedding as it releases phenols which are toxic to rodents. any other questions you can email me.

If you put a male and a female together, you will soon have more mice than you know what to do with. The babies will grow up quickly and make more babies, who will make even more grand babies. I have been it that situation. I have never heard of mice eating babies. Get a Teddy bear instead.

When I had my pet mice years ago all i did was put a male and female together. Leave them together until you know she is pregnant, I knew cuz she was fat, the sperate them BEFOR the babies, cuz he will eat them. Put him with the others you said you had. Leave the mom with her litter till they are growing and have hair. then test them with the others! If they dont fight then they are ok together if they scrap then keep them apart. hope this helps!

i had mice that had babies and the best and safest thing to do is to remove all other mice from the cage male and female......and at all costs keep the male away from the babies b/c he will eat everylast one of them. also when the babies get a little bit older if there is an obvious runt of the littler he will probably be eaten....it just happens sometimes.

mice only eat the babies in very cramped conditions so if you have a good sized cage with plenty of food and water you won't have a problem. if you have a house for them to sleep in then that would be a great place for her to have her babies. she needs to take care of the babies until they can eat and drink by themselves so its best to leave mom with the kids.
