your fish has swim bladder disease, some recover and some don't, nobody really knows why they get it but most experts agree that displacement of body organs is a major contributor
drop your water level to 6 inches to make life easier for him

Isn't it interesting that, as soon as you added a second fish, thus, overcrowding the tank, your fish starts to get sick? Hmmm.... The tank is overcrowded. For two small goldfish, you need a 20 gallon tank, minimum. Your water quality is more than likely bad. You need to get a bigger aquarium now. If you can't afford one, you can use those 20 gallon plastic storage containers. Set it up the same as your aquarium with the filter, gravel, decorations, add some stress-coat and some Bio-Spira. It is preferable to use spring water, not distilled, spring water, but if you absolutely have to use tap water, you need to use a detoxifier. Get a master test kit and test your water for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates and then start your water in a proper cycle to get the water quality up. Your fish probably has swim bladder disease, which can be caused by many reasons, one of them being, an overgulping of air trying to get enough oxygen. Fast the fish for three days. No food of any kind whatsoever. Then boil some fresh peas (no seasonings! lol!), remove the skins, mash and feed to the fish. Remember to remove any uneaten peas. A goldfish digestive tract is pretty straightforward and quick to process, so it shouldn't take more than a day or two to see if this is working. If not, raise the temperature to around 78-80 degrees and add epsom salts. Only 1/8th of a teaspoon per 5 gallons of water. If this isn't effective, try medicated food and an anti-biotic such as Metro-Med or Medi-Gold and Maracyn 1 or 2. Read the link for full details. Good luck to you and your little goldies!

First of all, you need a larger aquarium. Goldfish in particular produce enormous amount of waste and ammonia. A goldfish (one) to be properly taken care of should be in a 20-gallon aquarium and the rule of thumb is for every goldfish you add they need at least 10 gallons of water for themselves. Water changes are extremely important, as well and water testing such as ammonia, nitrates, nitrites and the pH. Do not overfeed your fish, this can lead to them swimming upside down and floating. See a pet store who has goldfish for professional advice.

It means it's bloating. It's either your feeding to much or to little. If he doesn't move he's/she's DEAD. If you feed extra for the small fish, maybe he gets some of the food your giving to the small fish.
I suggest moving the small fish to a new tank and feed the goldfish a little bit less of food.

sounds like he might have a swim bladder problem or there could be a water quality problem. you should do gravel vaccuums and change about 1/3 of your water weekly or your fish can get ammonia poisoning which is kind of like huffing glue -- it makes them do weird things. goldfish produce a lot of waste and waste makes ammonia. when you add more goldfish -- no matter how small it just makes for more ammonia.

I heard once that the circulation in the tank could cause something like this. Make sure the pump is large enough to circulate the air and the water.

normally is because when you introduce another gold fish into the tank, that new gold fish bring bacteria to the fish tank, and caused the gold fish have swim bladder problem
if your gold fish is big enough, u can try to gently oush its stomoch to push some air out
and remember next time when u purchase new ffish , don't straight away put into the aquarium, separate it for one day first
and also the tank is too small
