I'm a California resident and im very upset with the "no sell hand guns" law. I'm from Oakland and it's a dangerous city to live in. I know they stopped selling hand guns to 'stop' crimes, well guess what? There are still shootings and killings in my city. I can't protect myself if someone tries to come into my house. Criminals can easily get guns from the streets, while a hard working joe like me is left defenseless. People who live in nice neighborhoods may say "You don't need a gun, just call the police", well "hahaha" Oakland police don't bother to get your house until 5-8 hours later. Well i just wanted to know how i could get a hand gun legally? would i have to travel to another state to buy one? if so would it be hard for me to buy one because I'm from California? Would California let me bring it in legally? I know it may seem like a lot to go thru but im just a hard working joe not wanting to buy a dirty gun off the street. thank you for taking the time to read this.

IANAL and I am not from Kommiefornia but, I am aware of some of the gun laws there, as far as I know the purchase of handguns in the STATE of California is legal, however, there are restrictions on the magazines which only allows you to own mags that carry 10 rounds or less. BUT... I do not believe that Cali has a state firearms preemption law, which means that municipalities can make their own laws on what can and can not be legally owned/purchased within their jurisdiction.

Also I would not recommend trying to buy a gun out-of-state and bringing it back with you, most states require you to be a resident of said state before you can buy anyway but, if you somehow slipped through the system your mere possesion (depending on the laws) in your city could get you into some hot water.

My advice is to talk to a FFL dealer in your city or a representative of your city's law enforcement ageny. Either of them should be able to fill you in on what you are allowed to possess in your area.

What are you talking about? As long as you are of age and have no felonies, you can buy guns in CA. There are gun stores everywhere. If you are saying there are no firearms dealers in Oakland (which I imagine there are plenty), then go outside Oakland to any of the surrounding bay area cities.

First, remember your trials with guns when they vote in democrats. It will be a great year after the democrats start creating anti-gun bills as well as other laws that will take away more of our rights.
The best place to go for the straight "poop" on gun laws is the NRA website. They have a section there to click on pertaining to laws in your state. I truly pity Californians and their ridiculous elected officials ideas of trying to make it more safe. They are truly "missing the boat".
