Yes. The Nypirg was an abundant lifeform in the late Cretaceous period and then throughout the Mesozoic Era.
Nypirg were difficult to classify -- they had duckbills, scales and gills. They had thousands of eyes similar to a fly, but no optic nerve -- they were blind. They had opposeable thumbs, but due to a lack of nerve endings in their hands these digits were completely useless. They also had huge genitalia but reproduced asexually.
In the mid 1800s, the Nypirg still existed on the island of Madagascar, but it was their disproportioned genitals that finally caused their downfall. Portuguese traders found that Nypirg schlongs sold at a high price in Asia, where they were ground up and used in fertility powders. By the 1800s, the English had taken over the trading, which occurred at higher and higher rates until the Nypirg's extinction.
Alas, those lovable, hugely be-junked whatever-they-weres are lost to mankind. The world has less to offer without their gargantuan shafts.
