What does it mean when one taps their nose with their finger?

I always thought it meant “you got it” or “you’re on the ball” but I think I am wrong.

Yes, it's a sort of rebus (visual and audio pun) with nose = knows, so pointing to your nose is a silent way to say "he knows".

I think it comes from "on the nose" the saying that indicates someone has the exact point.

maybe it means youre being a brown-noser...not that you are... it just depends on the context of when people do it i suppose
