It doesn't sound like your computer is getting past the POST--that's the self test your PC runs before it hands control over to your operating system. Are there any beeps while booting? If you can get past the splash screen, right before it should go into windows, press the F8 key and access the advance windows boot menu. Select the top entry by arrow keying down to "Safe Mode". Try starting in Safe mode and a lot of times that repairs problems. You can also try unplugging everything, your keyboard, mouse, printer--anything attached externally to the pc. It could be one of those devices causing the problem.

You mean, you WERE using XP SP2. As of now, you're using Windows ZERO, Special Edition!!
Try holding down the F8 key during startup to get into Windows, then run an antivirus and/or antispyware program.
If you can't even get THAT far, time to get a new pc!! (Just kidding, but you WILL need to redo your hard drive, which means getting another copy of Windows if you don't already have one.)

I'm not sure I understand.
If you see the Taskbar (runs along the bottom of the screen) and the Start button, everything you set to load in the startup menu should be loaded.
Are you saying you cannot access your programs from Start? Do you have any programs installed? It sounds like Windows is loaded with nowhere to go.
You may have to uninstall Windows and reinstall.

The warranty is probably over, so it would be cheaper to just buy a PlayStation 2, this can play PlayStation 1 games aswell. You could also buy a new PlayStation 1 for very cheap off eBay.

Causes are as follows:
1 - Due to heavy load in system.
2 - Due to minimal RAM capacity
3 - Due to virus attack
4 - Due to multi operating systems in your PC
5 - Due to heavy load in system tray
6 - Due to over installations in your PC
Ways to solve this problem are:
1 - Delete all unwanted files, unused registries from system.
Note: If you have any External Storage devices/CD
writer...take back up in to that/burn into CD's
Important: Do defragmentation for all drives...so that your
system work very fast.
\> Procedure: Right click on Drives->Properties->Tools->
De fragmentation & Do Error Check also for
each and every drive. It takes time, but once in
2 weeks you have to do this.
2 - If RAM capacity is 256 MD/512 MB, pls try to change it. Go for 1GB/2GB DDR support RAM.
3 - If your system is infected with virus, your system becomes
slow. Please install Norten/Macfee anti virus softwares & scan
your system once.
Note: If you are already having any of Anti virus SW. pls
uninstall them & resintall once & scan you PC.
4 - If you have more than one operating system, the system may
become slow.Please check it.
5 - If you have many icons on System Tray(Down right corner,
where it displays time), pls remove from there, like: Winamp,
Antivirus SW Icons,etc...
6 - If you installed many small SW also, your system will become
slow. please remove unwanted SW & keep system upto date.
I hope your problem is one among the mentioned alternates. Pls do according to that.
