I received this response from DHL customer service: "We would contact FedEx to retrieve the package." I'll post other responses as received.

Oh, they burn it. In every post office, in every Kinkos Fedex, in every UPS Store, there's a little black box in the back. It's hooked up to a cylinder of propane, and once a day (usually around 4:30), all the employees disappear for 5 minutes. If you go in just before closing, you'll smell burning paper, propane, and marshmallows.

Or, they just return it. Yeah, I think they just return it.

You know i used to work for DHL and i used see people drop UPS and FedEx packages off all the time in the wrong box, i didn't know what to do cause i had just started working at DHL so my boss told me i can either hold onto the package myself until i see the other guys or i can just throw it away, i would usually keep the package for about a week or so and if i didn't see the UPS or FedEx guy i would just throw away in the trash, now that is DHL's policy but as far as the other two, i really dont know.
