I am 27 and married. I don't have a lot of bills, but my wife is demanding that I get a job. I would rather take a loan for college and get a divorce before getting a crappy part-time job that pays nothing. I have managed a business in the past and was a staff sergeant in the Army, so I have always made good money. Can anyone tell me why I should keep scraping bottom and get a part-time job too? This is the last semester I can work before my classes interfere with a job. I know student loans can haunt you later, but is it worth going to school full time AND working?

Being a Vet you not only get the GI bill but a living allowance, check it out with the veteran's affairs officer at the college you are attending.

If you were in the Army for eight years, you are eligible for the G.I. bill and/or, the Army College Fund, to pay for college. It's money you earned, by serving your country. Why take on a loan to burden you and your family, when you have basically have a free education waiting for you? Maybe you're not applying for jobs that pay better, without realizing it. Maybe your resume' needs to be 'vamped' up a little. If you were a Staff Sergeant, you have managed, supervised, scheduled, inventoried, etc. Be thankful for any job you can get with the way things are nowdays. It doesn't mean you have to have that job forever. Going to college and getting a degree can make a big difference. Studies show that a person with a degree can make $15.00 or more per hour than a person without a degree.

I'm in my fourties, work full-time and have returned to college and have a family. I know people at my college that are younger than you, with a spouse and a baby....and they would love to even have a part-time job right now.

My husband served almost 9 years in the Army then got out and hadn't signed up for the GI Bill but found out that because he is now partially disabled because of the Army, the VA is now paying for him to go to college to get retrained. They pay tuition, books, pencils and paper, everything down to his notebook paper. Plus they pay him to be a student. You might want to look into filing a claim with the VA if you just got out of the Army. Should that not work then of course you should get any grants you qualify for. Being that you are prior military, you should qualify for a few grants each semester which is free money and if that doesn't cover tuition and supplies then you should get a part time job to help with your family. If you are that willing to get divorced then you might want to consider that regardless of your school situation. Does your wife want you to work to pay for school or work to help with the monthly expenses? There is a difference and you sound like an *** the way you are so quick to dismiss her so that you don't have to lower yourself to get a part time job. My husband is working full time and going to school full time and still finding time to be a great husband and father to our kids. You never even mentioned having kids and you can't be bothered to go to school and work part time?

I'm surprised you haven't already looked into the options provided by the army.

Your first obligation is to your wife and that means being a provider whether or not you go back to school.
