it's easiest to convert each number into an improper fraction first:
2 1/4 is the same as 9/4
1 1/2 is the same as 3/2
3 1/3 is the same as 10/3
Then, just multiply across:
9/4 x 3/2 x 10/3
Take the numerators and the denominators seperately:
9 x 3 x 10 = 270
4 x 2 x 3 = 24
So the answer is 270/24 - but this can be reduced (6 is a common factor in the numerator and denominator) to 45/4 or 11.25

first, i would get each number in terms of a fraction. so for 2 1/4 you can consider it as 9/4. similarly 1 1/2 is 3/2 and 3 1/3 is 10/3.
the next step is to multiply the numerators together and the denominators together. so on top you have 9*3*10=270, on the bottom you have 4*2*3=24. so your final fraction is 270/24 which you can reduce if you like or leave in this form.

I'd do it this way:
Say the whole numbers, fractions and operations to yourself.
This then becomes:
Two and a quarter, multiplied by, one and a half, multiplied by three and a third.
You need to first understand that the fraction as written 1/4 means (one divided by four), 1/2 means (one divided by two), 1/3 means (one divided by three) etc.
There are two ways to solve the problem, the first way is by using fractions, the second way is by converting the fractional numbers to decimal numbers.
Using fractions can be hard, unless you know how to find the lowest common denominator (LCD).
In this case, the LCD is the lowest number that can divided by the number to the right of the / (divide by) sign.
So what is the lowest number that can be divided by 4, 2 and 3? Answer = 12.
You now need to convert the fractions to (say it) twelfths.
To do this, divide the LCD by the fraction number to the right of the / sign.
So to convert 1/4 to twelfths, divide 12 by 4. Answer = 3
To convert 1/2 to twelfths, divide 12 by 2. Answer = 6
To convert 1/3 to twelfths, divide 12 by 3. Answer = 4
So now the sum reads:
2 3/12 x 1 6/12 x 3 4/12
Now this looks harder than when we started, so we need to also convert the whole numbers to twelfths, so it tidies up the sum.
Multiply the whole number by 12 to get the number of twelfths, then add the number of fractional twelfths to it to find the total.
The sum now reads:
(12 x 2 + 3/12) x (12 x 1 + 6/12) x (12 x 3 + 4/12)
Simplified reads:
(24/12 + 3/12) x (12/12 + 6/12) x (36/12 + 4/12)
Add the twelfths in brackets to get:
27/12 x 18/12 x 40/12
Now we have the whole numbers added to the fractions with a common denominator.
This can be simplified again and written as:
(27 x 18 x 40) divided by (12 x 12 x 12)
which becomes 19,440 divided by 1728 to arrive at the answer of 11.25 (or rather 11 1/4)
Thats eleven and a quarter!
I'd do it the second way, which is:
Convert the fractons to decimal numbers.
1/4 means 1 divided by four, so get out the calculator and divide one by four. Answer = .25
1/2 becomes one divided by four. Answer = .5
1/3 becomes one divided by three. Answer = .33'
The ' means repeater, as the calculator can't show all of the decimal places.
Now the sum reads:
2.25 x 1.5 x 3.33'
Just whack the numbers into you friendly calculator for an answer of 11.24
The difference in answers is due to the calculator not being able to accept the correct number of decimal places for the reciprocal of three.
Hope you can follow all that!

2 1/4 x 1 1/2 x 3 1/3 convert the mixed numbers to improper fractions.
2 1/4=6/4
1 1/2=3/2
3 1/3=10/3
(9/4)(3/2)(10/3)=(9*3*10)/(4*2*3) cancel 3 in numerator & denominator
(9*10)/(4*2) cancel divide 10 by 2 in the numerator & cancel the 2 in the denominator.
(9*5)/(4)=45/4=11 1/4

first turn them into improper fractions so:
8/4 x 3/2 x 10/3
next find a common denominator in this case the LCD would be 12. so this is what the problem would look like now:
24/12 x 18/12 x 40/12
and i think you can find the answer from there =)
