I've checked the census reports, but could only really find median household incomes, as opposed to individual income. Any ideas?

I imagine the census records these data, but I'm not personally familiar with a way to access them. I do, however, have plenty of experience getting information like this from the General Social Survey, which is a large national survey that gathers a wide variety of information.

You can access the data at the website below. It lets you break things down by age, location, sex, and a wide variety of other variables.

The menu on the left will help you select the variables you want to use; the INCOME variables are for households, and RINCOME ones measure individual income. There are different ones for different years to compensate for inflation, as well as some that indexed to a specific year.
