Socialism and democracy go hand in hand... think about it. Socialism, like Sweden for example, gives a voice to all the ppl.

Caplitalism and democracy conflict and have throughtout history. The problem with capitalism is that the ppl, as caplitalism always results in, that end up the richest have a louder voice than everybody else.

These are not incompatible things.

Capitalism and Socialism are somewhat incompatible, however several socialist democracies exist throughout the world and right here in America we have a capitalist Democracy (or used to)

Democracy in America is the blending of Socialism and Capitalism; its really the only way a true democracy can exist.
However, Americans on the political right have successfully demonized the meaning of socialism just as they have the meaning of liberalism.......Yet, they have no problem taking advantage of national infrastructure which is the result of socialistic reforms. The US is living proof that Capitalism and Socialism can coexist within a Democracy. Capitalism is great, it generates lots of the wealth, the problem is it also generates greed, waste and the hording of resources, we need Socialism to balance it out otherwise the middle class would disappear and without a middle class you have no Democracy..

neither are truly incompatible.

however simply put pure forms of economic systems don't work.

in a democracy the people will always "vote themselves the treasury".

thus capitalism will become closer to socialism, thus tempering the capitalism and creating a hybrid situation with a capitalist base that has some socialist tendencies.

socialism and democracy would probably do the same allowing for some profiting and not make everything for the common good.

Edit:

It is important for people trying to answer this question to keep in mind that economic systems and government systems are not one and the same.

It is a good debate, either democracy succeeds because of capitalism or if capitalism only succeeds because of democracy but it is quite possible to have a different form of government with capitalism and a different economic system with democracy.

So when you say "the people" I guess you mean the government? What government represents the people? There are over a million people that took to the streets in socialist France the other day furious the "the government" used taxpayer money to bail out rich bankers. The government always separates from the people, but this is reality, and you are talking theory. I notice you don't mention a free market, which capitalism does not inherently represent. The capitalism happening now is merely government sponsored, so since government is involved, of course there will be force. Oh well, back to your pamphlets and blogs.
