When you plug in your computer your monitor gets the current at once. That's why your monitor becomes bright. But when you operate the computer with the eletricity from a battery, the electricity from the battery won't be enough to give the full brightness to the screen. So try on a battery with a high voltage to get the full brightness to your screen.

coz of your monitor settings.... in default, laptop monitors dim when it is running n batteries and brights up when plugged... try setting the monitor's brightness to high when it is running on batteries though this will take up more power than when it is dim...

What you are taking about a Customizable Option.
Every Laptop is configured by Default to run for High System Performance when Plugged into the Mains and to run of Long Battery Life when you are running on Battery.
You can customize the above by going to Control Panel > Power Options.
If you still need further clarifications please get back to me.

To conserve power to the battery so it can operate longer. To change it you have to change the power settings and adjust the brightness of the monitor.

I have the same problem.
I think, keep in mind this is my quess
that when its plugged into the charger and turned on, there is more power running through and when you disconnect it from the power, it tries to conserve power so your battery dosnt go flat as quick.
My laptop is only a few months old and it a new wiz bang thing, so I quess it may be a new feature. (its a DELL)

Because your laptop is set to save power when it is unplugged. You can correct this by modifying the power setting... What is the brand and model of your laptop? If you have quickset, then access the settings there. Also, you can brighten the screen by simply pressing the FN and the LIGHT button at the same time... The LIGHT button is different on each laptops. I would need to know what brand and model you have...

So it doesn't use up so much power. Getting dim extends the battery life.
