I'm thinking South Boston, but what events are planned for that day? And once I am in the area, how will I know where to go?

South Boston is good but can be a little dangerous if you don't know the area. Much safer is the area around Haymarket station, which has a few different pubs within short walking distance. As to where to go, you won't have any trouble locating the action. Lines to the pubs will be out the door and down the block before noon and last all day. If you go out at night, be prepared, though. Cover charges are often $30 per person, no drinks included, so choose wisely and stick to one place.
