Had it for almost 2 years, it was sick for a while, now it just lays on the bottom and only flitters about when it thinks a meal is coming.
It eats a few bites, then lays on the bottom again.
Is it just lazy, or old or what?

Well, 2 things could be possible.
1) He is old, sick and could die soon, or 2) you need to get him a tank mate. Bettas do much better when they have another betta to flare at. But make sure you keep them serperate. You need to buy a tank that has a divider, so they can be in the same tank together, but can be kept apart so they won't kill each other.

I have two Bettas. I bought a bowl for them with a divider down the middle. They love it. Sometimes they ignore each other, and sometimes they play. They are very beautiful together. I see them just laying around too. They are both over a year old.

I have a betta and all he does is stay in his skull house all day. and only swims out when I feed him or to get some air. I think the water filter pulls him and he has trouble swiming against it, so he hids all day. When I take the filter out to clean it he swims around the tank. (hes in a 5 gallon tank) Maybe he needs more room or the filter is making it hard for him to swim. I had Bullet (Betta) for a year now.

Do you have a tank filter running?
I find that bettas that are in a small container of water with no water movement (no filter/bubbler working), don't move around much at all. I have my betta in a community tank with good filtration and he is in constant motion.

Prob. old, tired, and grouchy. He may be sick too. But the only way you'll really know is to ask an expert and tell them his symptoms.
