is it true that cigarette ads were banned in America? if, so is there a website i can go to and see evidence to support that?

Cigarettes may not be advertised on television in the United States. They may be advertised in print media (newspapers, magazines, billboards). I don't beleive they are allowed on the radio.

Why not look up "federal tobacco law" in Yahoo search?
