We shut my daughter's bedroom door when we go out to keep the cats and dogs out. However, when we open the room again...sometimes quite awhile later, there is an odor (I finally figured out it smelled like rotten eggs). There is only one vent in her room (in the ceiling) and she has one window. Sniffing around, I cannot find a specific place of the smell. After the door is opened the smell goes into our room a tad and then goes away. I am concerned about her sleeping in her room...even though the door remains open. Any ideas? Thanks!

Natual gas has an odorant mixed with it that resembles a rotten egg smell! That is not good! Can it be natural gas? It's not poisonous, but you can still die from inhaling too much--it displaces oxygen in your lungs so you can in fact sufficate. Also the body can absorb gas fumes through/into the pores. Even if your not near the source of the gas leakage, because your body is "holding" gas molecules, you can actually combust if near an open flame. That happened to a woman in Phoenix. Really!

Dear concern parent,
Erm to be honest, you should practice your daughters to be more hygiene in their daily life etc. No matter how many windows the room has, if they do not maintain the cleanliness, the rotten egg smell will be there forever. Sleeping wit an open door will not solve the problem dear parent. The habit of keeping clean is the key to your answer hehehe... sorry to say this but aren't girls should be better in keeping their own stuff cleaner? Compare to boys?

I would try renting a steam cleaning such as a Rug Doctor. That way it gets anything that has seeped deep into the carpet. In my personal experience Fabreeze and Carpet Cleaner just clean the surface not deep inside the carpet fibers.

1. Gas leak.
2. Her room could be in the proximity of a sewer.
3. She has gas. Talk to her about that.

(To "mariot", who is under me...: your grammar stinks!)
