I like John Cena myself, but I can't figure out why so many people don't, he couldn't have wronged that many people, to the point of being hated by so many. I know this question has been asked before, but i'm just curious to see, if anybody has changed their minds about him. Say whatever you feel, I have to respect your honest opinion. Not that anybody care's, but i'm so glad I got to see him in real life.

This is a very complicated question. Being a former Cena hater myself (I've moved on to hating Batista, which I may elaborate on later) I can give you some of the reasons. First off, many people hated his rap gimmick. Either they just hated rap altogether (always a risk if you're going to have a musically inclined babyface) or they hated him for being "fake" (white, actually from an upper-middle class suburb, etc). That's not why I hated him though. I enjoyed his heel character who would cut genuinely vicious (and funny) rap promos on his opponents. I liked that he was the bad guy who was allowed to get the better of his opponents on the mic.

Then he turned face, and it all went to hell. He started pandering pathetically to the crowd, and his promos devolved into a never ending string of middle school level poop jokes. Also, all the in ring improvement he was making seemed to get flushed down the toilet as every match devolved into him getting beat up for the majority of the match and then hitting his "five moves of doom" for the win. I also didn't like his marine character (and still dislike the remenants of it that he's still using). It just smacked of fakeness.

Now, I think I can finally get behind Cena as a face. I like his "dumb bastard" character that's willing to step up to any challenge. I like that he's dropped most of the lame gay and poop jokes. He relies more on his natural charisma to produce humor when it's called for and seems more intense and focused on y'know, wrestling. Also, he's really come along way in the ring. Sure, he's no Benoit, but he's had good, dramatic story telling matches with Edge and even Umaga (a miracle by any definition of the word). I realized I'd converted from a hater to a fan a couple of weeks ago when his music hit and I didn't groan, but was actually looking forward to his prescense. However, I can see how it'll still be hard for some to get over his past, and he still isn't perfect. Hopefully this answer was somewhat insightful though.

I agree with your husband. Most of Cena's fans are children, teen girls or younger hormone-raging women (which I don't even get, because I don't think Cena is good-looking) who know nothing about real wrestling or the history of wrestling and watch for the "hot" men.

I'm a 37 year old woman who has watched pro wrestling for almost 25 years. I watch it to see the competition and sport of wrestling. I think it's a disgrace to call Cena a "wrestler", when he can't wrestle. He may be an entertainer, but he's not a wrestler.

I have said it before and I'll say it again: John Cena seems like a very nice person in real-life and he represents the WWE well, however he's just simply not a good wrestler. There are talented guys who can wrestle that are more deserving of the title.

Most of the animosity towards Cena is for two reasons: 1)He hasn't paid his dues and 2) many veterans who have have had to put him over. Think about all the wrestlers he's faced who were heels, and the audience picked them over him. All of those opponents have paid their dues, worked their asses off for years and are actually good wrestlers. Jericho, Christian, Triple H, and even Angle have been in this business for years, and they still had to be made look like chumps when they wrestled with Cena. Even RVD, who Cena could never be half as good as in a million years, didn't even get the grace of a clean victory over Cena. He could only be allowed to win after a screw job involving Edge and Hymen. Bottom line is Cena only got into the business in 2000, and only started getting screen time in 2002. If he hadn't dressed up as Vanilla Ice for Halloween, he would still be in mid card Hell, where he should be.

Your husband is so right! When Cena first came to WWE, he really wrestled. Wrestled so well that I was a fan of his. When he started entertaining more than wrestling, that's when I and others turned on him. He has watered down is style to the point where he has "Five Moves of Doom" and appears "Hogan-nesque", which the wrestling community has grown tired of since 1991.

Now I wasn't a Cena fan but I have become one. He is getting better and better every week. Plus anyone that beats La-mo Umaga gets a thumbs up from me.

Cena certainly does appeal to women and children because he's both "hot" (the women) and a badass, anti-establishment, take-no-prisoners guy. (kiddies)

The older male fans arn't a fan of him so much because 1.) he used to be a rapper
2.) MOST importantly, he's not a great technical wrestler (actually a pretty bad one, and it's insulting when he uses the STFU to beat someone who's actually a sumbission wrestler)

Well, in my house, it's the other way around. My husband likes him, but i just detest him. Knowing this, my husband teases me with the you cant see me BS. He has taught that to our 4 yo daughter. Whenever he comes on TV, I get up go to the kitchen get snacks or go to the Bathroom. Ive never liked him from the get go. My husband likes his wrestling and his insults.
I just think that he is too scrawny to be sexy if you want to know the truth.
Me, I love Vince McMahon, but people hates him. Everyone has their preference.

john cena has his fans alright. your boyfriend doesn't like guys. that stands to reason.

somebody like john cena would make your boyfriend insecure because he already has more marbles, if you will.

if somebody isn't doing great and they see somebody who is, either they just don't like them and stay away or they find a way to screw with their life. bizarre huh?
