I agree with you. Ron Turner hasn't called a good game in weeks. I fail to understand why they constantly felt the need to chuck the ball 40 yards downfield on first downs (throughout the playoffs). As bad as the play calling was, some of the blame has to fall on Grossman. Seriously, two fumbled snaps? The rain/wet ball excuse is useless. Peyton didn't have a problem with the snaps, and he took a hell of a lot more than Rex did in that game.
The reason they lost was play calling and turnover problems. The Colts couldn't really stop the Bears - they didn't have to. Anyone that thinks the Colts completely outplayed the Bears is only fooling themselves. The Colts showed up, but they didn't play their best game either. The Colts played solid, but the Bears played like they were still in pre-season. All in all, it was a pretty crappy game.

The real question is: Why did the Bears make it to the Super Bowl?
Honestly, they never had an offense. They won their entire season on special teams and defensive execution. Their offense was never dominant in a game, which is exactly what they would have needed to beat the Colts. It finally came down to a game where they would need an offense to win, and they did what their offense did all season, nothing. Honestly I think there's alot more wrong with the Bears offense than Rex Grossman. To be honest, they probably had one of, if not the best defense in the NFL, but believe it or not, the defense needs the offense to execute every once in awhile to win.

As mentioned before, their inability to stop the run was the main reason they lost. Giving up that kind of yardage to two separate non-elite backs is shameful.
Cedric Benson's injury was also (imo) a gigantic blow. While TJ is almost certainly better, Benson has the kind of power that could wear out and weaken the Colts run D. A lot of people blame Grossman, but if Benson had been in the game, Rex would have never needed to touch the ball.

They lost because they were outplayed and outclassed.........Grossman is horrible...............They could barely get a first down the entire game........He's certainly not a team leader and that's something a QB must be...........I wouldn't blame Turner because the Bears couldn't execute..........Their defense had to have tired from being on the field so much of the time while the Colts maintained possession for eons.........It's definitely a team effort in losing.............CAT

I think that the Colts won for the following reasons: Coach Dungy, Peyton Manning, and Bob Sanders. The Bears played a great game, but these guys have waited for years to bring our city to the Superbowl and get a win.

because the colts played better up front in the second half and apparently did their homework on the three pass routes that the bears were successful with in the prior playoff games...the inside slot route, both sides, and sideline isolation...the colts put more pressure on grossman up front and he started hurrying passes often not seeing better routes and open receivers, and sanders and the middles were caving in the running lanes...problems handling the ball and penalties at crucial times magnified the failures on offense as soon as the second half started with the bears crossing the 50 both times and ending up punting...ineffectiveness on offense put the bears defense on the field far too long early in the second half much like the first half ended...the bears were still in reach until the jump ball pass...the rest, as they say , is history...

Rex Grossman couldn't execute and Peyton Manning was able to pick the usually stingy Bears defense apart. Manning was so comfortable throwing the football in the 2nd hlaf you would think that it wasn't ranining.

because their much-ballyhooed Defense couldn't stop the run. They couldn't get off of the field - and on top of that, the Bear's offense couldn't sustain a drive - and thus gave the football back to the Colts.

They couldn't move the ball. They basically had one good offensive play in the entire game (Thomas Jones' 50 yard run). Without that play and Hester's kick return it would have been a complete blowout.
