More Than Words by Extreme. They guitar player is Nuno Bentoncourt (one of the best and most under rated players of our generation). The singer is Gary Sharon (think the last ill fated frontman of Van Halen who after a world tour left people saying, Gary who?!?).
BTW, you're off by a few years. Extreme's Pornographiti CD (featuring More than Words) was released in the very early 90's. Nirvana, NIN and Smashing Pumpkins had pretty much killed the Extreme sound by 1995. It was kind of a mercy killing. :-)

It was called "More than Words" by the band Extreme from the Album Pornograffiti. I remember the video from back when they used to show videos on MTV>
