As others have said, October is usually the best time to be here. Fewer tourists, usually good weather, a bit cool, and a small chance of a snowstorm.
For a honeymoon.
Estes Park is beautiful and relatively uncrowded that time of year. Romantic Riversong is a Bed & Breakfast in the country there.

For a big deal celebration, Aspen is nice, but expensive. I like the moderately priced and charming Hotel Durant. Breckenridge is similar, but a little cheaper.

If you really want a cabin, get this book. It lists places I've seen nowhere else.

1) No skiing in October, anywhere.
2) Leaves will be mostly gone in October. In the High Country they start to turn the week after labor day and two weeks later are gone.
3) Early October is a pretty good time to hike around but you must wear bright orange to make sure the hunters know you are human, and sometimes the water is great for fly fishing
4) You need to decide what part of the state you want to go to. Southwestern Colorado is great for cabins and lodges. The ski areas are dead that time of year and have plenty of space in condos, hotels and cabins. Durango, Silverton, Crested Butte or Telluride are awesome.

October is a perfect time to visit! The leaves are all sorts of different colors, there is a nice crisp bite in the air, the days are warm, etc. Although there IS the occasional October blizzard. so beware of that. But if you're planning on a ski trip, October is not so good. Not enough snow on the mountains. Late winter/early spring is the best skiing. I cant suggest lodging though because I dont know where you are thinking about going... if I were you i'd stay away from the touristy areas like Vail, Aspen, Breckenridge or Keystone. A really good area that is GORGEOUS and is not heavily populated with Texans would be Steamboat Springs. As far as lodging, stay away from the popular lodging, look for a nice quaint bed and breakfast. I stayed at one once in Steamboat and it was gorgeous. dont remember the name though. Something like Mountain Chalet... dont quote me on that though.

Denver is a beautiful place. I've lived in Littleton for almost fourteen years, and go up to the mountains at least five times a year to ski.
We just had a ton of snow that probably won't melt any time soon, but if the snow is as good in early fall as it's been in early spring, I can tell you that it would be lovely. It's been nice and powdery lately since we've gotten fresh snow nearly every weekend. The trees turn about that time too, so it'll be beautiful.
Grand Lake is a place I would highly recommend. The Twin Lakes are gorgeous as well. Aspen might be a bit crowded, but it's equally gorgeous in the fall. Vail, Keystone, and Winter Park are my favorite ski resorts. Vail's a little pricier than the other two, but there are tons of things to do there besides ski. There's shops and lots of other activities.

Well, there's really not usually much in the way of skiing in October around here. The resorts start making snow and opening around the end of October, but the powder's really not that good usually because it's still usually pretty warm here in October, barring the occasional snowstorm. Our typical high in October is around 55 degrees, so it's a beautiful time of year to visit, weather-wise. If you do choose to come here, you should check ouor Silverthorne, which is a very underrated ski resort with really nice, affordable cabins.

I completely agree with rwhitney on the weather at that time of year in Colorado. My husband and I vacationed in southwest Colorado last October. Every day was cool enough to wear a medium fleece jacket, except one day there was a good snow storm that blew through which made it definitely coat weather. It is beautiful that time of year, though, in many places the fall colors on the trees are truly great.
If you like seclusion, and if you like Native American history, cliff dwellings, fabulous (I mean FABULOUS) views from your cabin, then I can't stress how wonderful this cabin is that we stayed in. Here's the web site: http://www.mesaverdeloghome.com/accommodations.html
It is a fully furnished, quiet cabin on a few acres of land, with views to die for in all directions. To the east there are the La Plata mountains where Durango and Silverton are, we could see snow on the tops (but not enough to ski on). To the south there is Mesa Verde where there are multitudes of cliff dwellings, and the national park entrance is only 2 miles away, you can go there and see an amazing bit of our history. Eight miles to the west is the town of Cortez where you can get groceries for your cabin, and beyond that is a mountain range which is called The Sleeping Ute, it looks like a Native American laying on his back with his arms folded over his chest, fast asleep, and the sun sets over him creating great picture taking opportunities.
And, the owner of the cabin is a very nice man named David Nighteagle, who is a Native American who makes and plays lovely sounding Native American flutes.
Look at the web site and click on activities and attactions, that'll give you an even better idea of what to expect out there.
Anyway, I've probably gone on and on with the description. I wish the best to you with your marriage and honeymoon!

Mid sept. thru mid nov. are your best bets... This happens to be our transitonal season change (hot, warm, cool and cold ) Forget the blizzard like conditions we had a few months back... This really only occurs about every 3-5 years but don't forget that in COLORADO it can be sunny/warm then down right windy cold in a matter of minutes then all of a sudden you're asking yourself what just happened... Colorado is arid and dry usually but relatively comfortable place to live without the humidity that people experience down south or east of the ROCKY MN. REGION... As far as lodging go's... Go to the google web and search (COLORADO LODGING) then I'm feeling lucky... there it will give you a slew of places to stay from economy to the ritzy high end... good luck and may you both stay wed til death do you part...

It is a great time to visit, but you won't be able to ski. The basen's won't be open yet, and if they are the skiing would be horrible. Just thought I should let you know that so that you don't come here expecting to ski. We got married, in the mountains, in October and it was over 70 degrees.

Colorado Springs is a great place to visit, there's a big canyon called the Royal Gorge, a 14,000ft peak very close (Pike's Peak) and a cool park of huge, strangely formed rocks called the Garden of the Gods.
