i bought my son two hamster from the pet store. and from what i could tell they were both female. they fought some but it was never really anything big, and when they would i would i split them up. then one day while sitting on the couch i keep hearing a strange noisy. i looked into the cage and the bigger hamster had eatin one of the back legs on the other hamster.YUCK!!!! so i ended up taking that half eatin hamster back to the pet store. but since i have been home i have been watching the other hamster and notice she has been acting strange. like making something like a nest and she has not been very active. i really just don't understand any of this.this is the first hamster we have own so im not sure about there behavior. i mean she was not ever mean or anything she never tried to bite or anything. but the hamster with the half eatin leg wouldn't even let you touch it. sooooooo i guess i just want to if anyone might know anything. PLEASE HELP

well, you did get two female hamsters i'm sure. but one of them had been pregnant. pregnant hammies tend to act protective and would be nasty to intruders, which happens to be your other female hammie. female hammies very rarely attack male hammies. the diggin of straw and making a nest tends to be the act within the 2 weeks of gestation.
aniwae, congrats to having ya litter of baby hammies =) do be sure not to touch them too much or your smell may get onto them. mama hammies can get nasty and eat off their own kids.
yeap, all the best!

Well, I got a feeling that ur pair of hamster is a male and female hamster.

Could she be pregnant? As female hamsters pregnant, they tend to be more aggressive than normal and she tend to be less active and tend to be building nest...

For confirmation, visit a vet for confirmation.

PS: Just a personal thought => When u bring ur half eaten hamster back to pet store, most store will put it to sleep. Very cruel...

When hamsters are young they can be together but as they mature they can become VERY territorial so must be seperated. i have had them bite each other in the back but not start eating each other. Making a nest is normal they are actually nocturnal so will sleep during the day. you will find many products in the pet shop (cozy nest,shred-a-bed....) that cater to this need .handling daily will help keep them friendly towards you good luck

You hamster may need a man hamster, or maybe it that time of month for her.

hello. Arthur is investigating his new territory, is all. as quickly as he's used to it and it starts to smell like him, then he will calm down. positioned a number of his previous bedding in to make it extra homey. Cheers, Steve.
