No television in my reclusive world. No radio. Sometimes, when I visit people, I see a television. Sometimes, when I travel, I gorge on television news in hotel rooms at night (VERY SCARY, isn't it, television, that is?). I read. Everything. Ancient manuscripts and dictionaries, history, science and technology journals, mostly. Archival libraries and museums. I'm hunting for something. To keep up, I read mostly the Internet / newspapers / Congressional Record / United Nations stuff, especially WHO / Al Jezeera / U.S. Army Times / AARP lit / public records related to water and air quality / bird stuff / moss stuff / art stuff/ thanatology. I'm hunkered down writing and I'm off the human grid for awhile. My son's a politician. That counts, I suppose, toward civic participation. The world can have him instead of me. I'm sick of the world. I work only with dying kids now. I also answer questions here.

I don't watch television; I haven't traveled in a few years, but I've been to a few different countries, including a few in Europe; I like novels from the perspective of a depersonalized character, and I also like to read about the biology of the brain; I dislike the radio, but I listen to music constantly. Among my favorite artists/bands are the following: Jeff Buckley, Tom Waits, Beirut, Arcade Fire, Elliott Smith, Max Richter, The Pixies, Grateful Dead, and a host of others.
My point of view is definitely "ignorant", as I don't believe that most of what I "know" via the media is true.
I do discuss my world views with others, but I've found it harder to do so lately, as I seem to differ on most of my views. This wouldn't be so bad if they were open-minded enough to entertain my ideas.
I stay connected to what's going on in the world mostly through the internet, as it's more vast and interactive than television, newspapers, or radio shows.

As far as TV, I hate reality shows...they are so NOT realistic! The worst are the Nanny shows. Does anyone REALLY believe that there are parents out there who are so STUPID as to let their kids treat them like that?! Love the CSI shows, except CSI Miami...Cain is just too much like Capt. Kirk...very overdone! Not too into most of the sitcoms...but I think The Class is gonna be a big hit.
I stay connected to the world by listening to talk radio...no, not Rush. He's an idiot. He began ok, but his mouth outgrew his brain. No, I listen to Sean Hannity, Dave Ramsey, Mike Rogers, Bill O'Reily just to name a few. I figure as much news and reports as they have to dig thru to get stuff for their shows, they ought to know what they are talkin about. Also, they are more conservative and have no real ties to anyone, so they're not as likely to give a slanted view. I feel like I am VERY informed, as I do a lot of reading on my own, and tend to check out stories myself. I am a VERY informed voter...do a lot of researching voting records of candidates, etc. I am conservative, but not necessarily Republican, I vote for the person, not the party. Have even been known to vote for the occassional Democrat. Yes, I do discuss my world views with others, even those whose views differ from mine.

I read 2 newspapers daily and 2 news magazines weekly. I watch Keith Olbermann and Lou Dobbs and listen to Ed Schultz daily. I consider myself a middle of the road democrat who is hoping that John Edwards is nominated for the presidency.

Google news... various blogs using an aggregator like bloglines.com. I consider myself an informed, independent thinker and love to discuss world views with others... especially with those of other opinions. Thats how I grow, and learn what others think.

I have setup my home page to Google and customized it to include weather and news from various sources including NYT, CNN, BBC, Hindu, NHPR, and many other sources related to my interests like. To keep it simple, it is divided into three tabs/pages. You may start with something simple and then keep adding more stuff and organizing it.
