As a captain of the visiting Indianapolis Colts, kicker Adam Vinatieri called "tails". The toss came up 'heads'.
Sunday's game represented the 10th consecutive time that the NFC team won the pregame coin toss.
But then again, that's not a good thing. The team winning the coin toss has now lost 9 of the last 11 Super Bowls.
One other interesting trivia tidbit: Billy Joel became the first person in NFL history to sing the National Anthem at 2 Super Bowls. A much younger Billy Joel was invited to sing the Star Spangled Banner at Super Bowl XXII, 19 years ago.
