For the most part, the Middle East seems pretty conservative. Even as people in Iraq support democracy, religion plays a huge role, and right now, their religious laws at least keep order.
Iraq wasn't too bad before America disrupted it, the only problem was Saddam Hussein, if Iraq had a leader who didn't kill so many people, Iraq would be fine today without a democracy, sometimes that's just the way it is.

Democracy is not the ideal government for any society which was not founded on such a concept (whether that society be Islamic or not). It is simply not possible to impose a democracy on a society that is not prepared for one, for doing so would be a complete contradiction of terms.

When instead of a constitution the Qu'ran is the basis of law one can only expect a sectarian system based on that. Could we have democracy if the Bible was our basis for law?
