My daughter would sing: "Drink my spit. It's nice and wet!"
That disturbed me SO MUCH! She repeated it over and over and over (in tune). We never addressed the situation. And she grew out of it.
P.S. It was a catchy tune. I didn't know weather to publish the song, or put my daugther in thearpy.
Your child will outgrow this behavor.

Its human nature. Adults do the same thing. The subject of the song is simply a reflection of the state of mind emotionally and education wise of the individual creating the song.

Because the world has not yet shamed or condemned them into stopping it yet. Same reason they are so free with their art....they haven't heard yet that "No such thing as a pink dinosaur!" or "Ladybugs can't smile!"
Instead children are given affirmation all day long: "Ooohh...I like that song" or "Sing Grandma that song you made up about rainbows" or "That's the most ferocious lion picture I ever saw!"

developmentally, when children make words up, sing or repeat non-sensical phrases, or make up songs about random things, they are working on their language skills. a child of seven's brain is developing at a rate over 20 times than that of an adult! these speech "games" are just one way a child develops their mental skill set.

Because unlike adults ( well at least most adults) children live totally and completely in the moment, so whats happening now is whats happening-why not sing about it?

Children have a limited way of communicating...They like the "sing song-ness" of singing. Singing is natural to all humans...even my 5 month old son "sings." It's fun, they like the sounds, it's stimulating

Isn't it cute?
They like to celebrate good things and protest bad things. They are generally exposed to simple songs, and haven't yet learned that they "can't" sing or compose. Their creativity is still off the leash.

Because it's a silly and fun thing to do and that's what being a kid is all about. I STILL make up songs about random things! :)
