I have been having this debate in my head for weeks now. I am stuck between 2 beautiful, classic girl names, that are unfortunately common, and an uncommon name that isn't as sophisticated or classic. I think ultimately we will go with the classic/common names. I did a study on the popularity of top 10 names from 1980-1990 compared to the top 10 names from 2000-2009. The results were amazing to me! I assumed that names like Ava, Sophia, and Isabella would be the new Jessica's, Jennifer's and Amanda's. Surprisingly, there were an average of 12000 more girls named Jessica, Jennifer and Amanda, than there are Ava, Sophia and Isabella. It seems that popularity in names isn't quite the same as it once was. There will never be as many Ava's as there are Jennifer's. As far as spelling goes, I hate it when people butcher a name just to make it seem more unique. I think it makes it more unsophisticated than unique.

I was going to name my son Orion. Nathaniel is good. My daughter is Amelia Beth. Other choices were Lucy or Jacinta or Lilly. I also like Illiana (illiana, stupid capital i looks like an l!) Sometimes boys names for girls can work, especially middle names. My sister is Valerie Clark and sis-in-law is Teagan George. Make one up! Anything goes! The name will take on the child's personality, so don't worry about "oh, I knew someone named that and they weren't very nice".
