Guinea pigs tend to be skittish. Since you've had her several months and apparently her health is all right, my guess is that she's just scared because she's not used to being handled. So, handle her more. Take her out and pet her and give her fresh vegetables, or whatever she likes.

Some guinea pigs are just skittish (is your piggie a wild-haired piggie? They tend to have a trait that makes them more of a scaredy-cat kind of pig. I suggest that you just hold your piggie a little more often - the more you do the less your piggie will be scared. You can even just place your piggie in your lap for a bit before any actual petting. And don't touch her belly, that is obviously a sensitive spot for her!

If her hair starts falling out, or if she becomes sensitive all over, she scratches a lot and (at the worst) develops seizures she may have mites. Mites live under the skin so it makes their whole bodies feel miserable. My piggie suffered seizures when he contracted mites (his roommate did not). If you suspect she may have contracted mites take her to the vet.

I don't think your piggie has mites but just a fear of being handled. I took a lot of time with my first piggie. I held him in my lap for five minutes a day for a week or so. And I slowly up-ted the time to thirty minutes. Eventually he was able to take petting. Just work with your piggie. Remember that she is scared. Use a calm soothing voice and maybe give her her favorite treat while she sits in your lap. The food may be enough to distract her (this trick worked with my first piggie but not my current one - but that doesn't mean I didn't try!).

Good luck with your piggie! =)

Nothing i have 5 guinea pigs. some pigs don't like to be touched on there bellys that may be one reason. That or it is not use to being picked up. They squeak anyways or you may be holding it too tight. they do that though sometimes when there happy. Just pick it up and hold it till it gets used to you. Now one of my pigs jumps up and down and everything cuz its happy when it gets the slightest touch. But nothing is wrong with your pig. good luck i have 5 the mom just had 2 lil ones and there sooo cute and tiny

It's nothing abnormal at all. One of mine is REALLY skittish. The other one will let you touch him, but you can't pick him up without him freaking. I try to pet them lots, but I don't pick them up too much because I am scared that I would stress them out too much. They are so happy in their cage that, when they are out, they just want back in. It is their safe zone. Just start by petting them lots and giving them treats and fresh veggies to make them happy. Try giving them more attention when they are eating their treat. This may help. Good luck!
