Hello all. My ear feels clogge with fluid. It is affecting my hearing and it is slightly painful. I was just wondering if anyone had any special home remedies for removing fluid from the ear. Normally, I lay on my side to drain it, but that takes forever and I don't really have the time to do it, being the busy college student that I am. It would be very difficult for me to use ear candles, and I am already aware of the dangers of using q-tips, so no need to warn me of that. Sweet. Thanks.

Here's a solution that worked for my daughter.
Lay on your side with the affected ear up. Put 3 or 4 drops of hydrogen peroxide in your ear (available at pharmacies). You will hear a bubbling sound. Leave for about 15 minutes. Repeat twice a day until infection goes away; about 3 - 4 days.
Or see a doctor.

Don't use a cotton swab! Very bad idea, can cause permanent hearing damage and you risk losing the thing inside. Go and see your local practice nurse. Before you do put warm - note warm not hot - olive oil down for a few days to loosen any hard wax so you can be cleaned out properly and safely. The only thing that should go into your ear is your elbow.

There are over-the-counter remedies (drops) for Swimmer's Ear (a.k.a. antifungals) that work pretty well, and prevent infection. That may take care of the pain, as well as the fluid. If it stays painful, don't play with this- you will need more serious antibiotics. If the infection spreads, you could have seroius damage, according to doctors I have had over the years.

Cleaning - hydrogen peroxide
ear ache - onion juice
from the knowledge that the ear, nose and throat are tied in together - a little Horseradish usually will clean things out when eaten.

First you your q tip to clean the wax build up in your ear. Then take a sock and put enough salt in it to make a small ball. Then tie it off and heat it up in a pot. Now take it out and put another sock over it, tie it off and sleep on it. The salt with the heat will drain the infection.

If water is clogging your ear, take a cap full of rubbing alcohol and pour it in your ear. Turn your head so it will drain out.

Isopropyl alcohol will "pull" the water from your ear.

Hi there-
I am a nurse and i have heard of people who take a hair dryer turned on medium and gently blow hot air into thier ear... gently. Take it and go back and forth over your ear so you dont burn yourself... then lay down at night on that side and it is supposed to drain.

Elvis Presley's mother would doctor him by putting drops of urine in his ear, which brings up the question of how she knew to do that.

Apparently, it was folk medicine in Mississippi, but who first came up with that idea, and what was the reasoning behind it?
