You can clean it the same way they render flesh off corpses in the forensic labs. Put it in water and boil slowly. Hours later (or sooner considering it's small), pick the shell out fo the water and scrape out the now wonderfully loosened flesh with a small soft brush (maybe an artist's paint brush?). Let it cool naturally, and polish it up.

To polish it, you could use either a paste wax rubbed into the crevices with a fine brush and polished. Or if you're essentially lazy, you could spray it with clear varathane (plastic) and let it dry.

Get a pick and yank out the body. Wash the shell. Then let the ants eat the rest.

if you don't intend to place it back in the tank soak it in bleach water for a few then spray it out with high pressure water .
