Hey, so sorry, I understand, the last 5 years have been really rough on me, one tragedy after another, I think it is more of a state of mind than looks, I can only suggest that you try to find joy and beauty in all things, remember pretty is as pretty does. Think positive...and smile as often as you can find reason to.

1) Do things for YOU--go horseback riding, join a book club, try sky diving, but do it ALL FOR YOU!
2) Get your hair done. Seriously. Get your hair colored and styled--you're going to end up feeling like a million dollars.
3) What are some of your goals? What would you like to accomplish before you die? Make a list and try to cross off one of those this year. Have you always wanted to see Italy? Do it! Swim with the whales? Do it!
4) Learn a new hobby--paint! Sculpt! Photography! It doesn't matter, so long as YOU enjoy it! You say you've had many setbacks, and getting into a new hobby is a GREAT way to meet people and get back on your feet.
5) Join a gym with classes you enjoy. In other words, have fun working out! A healthier, thinner you will be able to conquer so much! This isn't about weight loss as much as it is regaining your old self!

You know the "outside" stuff like hairstyle, manicure, etc. Getting your sparkle back is an inside job. There are several ways I found that works but may take time to complete the cure. Take a walk everyday (preferably outside but indoor track will do in a pinch), do something everyday for someone else without being asked, and read something everyday that takes a little effort to understand. In the process of these you will get toned, empathetic, and interesting. You will meet a lot of people too. Good luck.

You're not alone and I wonder just like you do.I won't even let my BF see me necked. He says I look fine but I KNOW what I look like.I'm 42 and have put on some extra pounds. My self confidence is gone.Believe it or not I was wanting to ask the same question earlier.I'm gonna keep up with the answers you get.I have known womenall my life that seem fine with growing older and seem to have much confidence.I wonder...........are they faking being so secure or do they worry like we do.I was always skinny and pretty and peppy.........................I wish for those days..

Your defining beauty the way our youth-obsessed culture does. You may have changed over the year, but change can be good. Your confidence also has nothing to do with how you actually look. :) A good appearance comes from confidence and nice personality.

Pamper yourself, make a real effort in your appearance. How you feel on the inside reflects how you look on the inside
