This only happened just recently, on mornings of -12 below zero or so. It does not come on when the car is warm, and it is on when I start it but goes off (and stays off) after the car warms up a few minutes. I see no signs of a leak, and the coolant was changed at the local Midas in December. Any ideas?

When the temperature get so cold, all liquids shrink. Your coolant is just the same. The light is measuring low pressure. Until you get the car warm the coolant pressure is low. It is like boiling water. When it gets warm, steam is emitted. In your coolant, it is the same way. The light goes off because the pressure (steam) has built up to a point that the pressure switch is cut off, thus the light goes out.

I would suggest you check your coolant when your car is cold. I bet the coolant is low to a point you might not be able to see it. If you fill it up, your light might not go on, but you will boil the coolant out into your overfill.

It is really not a problem. Just an irritant.

God bless you :)

The coolant level is probably very close to the add mark and once the car starts running and pumping the coolant through the system it pushes the level just high enough to keep the light off. It shouldn't hurt anything, but if you are like me it is annoying and I would just wait until the car is cool and open the radiator and top it off to stop it from doing this.

As long as you have coolant in the reservoir, don't worry about it as long as it goes off in a few seconds.

it could be as simple as a short in the wiring for the lights. my cars seatbelt light comes on then goes off if i hit a bump.
