Paraphrasing is basically to rewrite something in your own words. When writing papers from research in an encyclopedia or a book you always have to paraphrase or else it is considered plagiarism, which is illegal!!!

Hi Marie!

According to the dictionary, paraphrasing means: "a restatement of a text or passage giving the meaning in another form, as for clearness; rewording."

Here's an example of paraphrasing (using the above definition): Saying something differently in a shorter version from what the dictionary said. LOL Hope that helps.

Paraphrasing is the act of "rewording" a statement from a source. Mind you paraphrasing still needs to have citation (MLA, Chicago, any kind) as it would be considered plagiarism if you didn't.

Ex.
A paraphrase of the first amendment to the Constitution would be something like this,

"U.S. citizens enjoy free-speech as well as many other freedoms, including choice of religion and rights of the press."

Hope that helps

Paraphrasing is taking an author's words, and re-wording them. For example, let's take Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliette. Juliette says, "Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?" To paraphrase would be something like: Romeo, Romeo, Where are you, ? Now. You must understand that when you paraphrase any ones work, you must still cite your source. This is very important, because otherwise it's plagiarism.

When you paraphrase, you are restating something that someone else has said, using your own words. For example, the Golden Rule is: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." You could paraphrase that as, "Treat others the same way you want to be treated."

I hope this helps.

Paraphrasing is to write something you have read into your own words. This is done by changing their words around, using different words with teh same meaning or interperating something differently

The best way to perform this task is by reading something, turning the paper over and working with the main ideas yourself. This prevents you from putting information that is unneccesary and at the same time preventing you from copy the orginal article.
