I have a 2003 dodge dakota V6 with the 7 /year 70,000 mile warranty with the check engine light on. I took it to advanced and had a diagnostic check ran, the computer said it was the oxygen sensor. Would this be covered under my warranty? and if not how much would it cost to get this fixed? & I know, I should not have bought dodge...also by driving a couple of days with this wrong, will it really hurt my engine??

The Oxygen sensor is only covered by the Factory's Basic 3yr/36,000 mile warranty.

If you have less than 36k on it,,you might be in luck depending upon delivery date
.............................
The 7/70 warranty does NOT cover O2 sensors,,,only basic engine/trans/drive axles
...........................
The Federal Emissions warranty....
It Was 5/50 on Everything thru 1995

After 1995 it changed to 2/24 on Everything Related to Emissions.
Most all of which would be covered by Factory 3/36 anyway.

In addition to the Fed 2/24 "Everything",,,
there's an 8/80 Fed Warranty on Only
*Catalytic Convertor
* "Engine Computer"
...................................

I 'bleive there's 2 Oxygen Sensors on your vehicle??

Retail Prices at avg Auto Parts Store ranges from about $70 to $100.

Just a "GUESTIMATE",,depending upon whether you need 1 or 2 sensorsand other variables...
Parts & Labor price range,,,$100~125 to $250~275,,,?????
Just a Guess,,I'm way outa that loop these days.

If you've gotta pay for the repair yourself and $$$ is an issue,,
Shop around, get prices from a few places.

Generally speaking,,It's NOT a complicated operation to replace most Oxygen sensors.
No real difference than changing a spark plug.
But that depends on Accesibility,,,,some are Very clear & easy to get to,,,some are difficult.

If You're a do-it-yourselfer type,,or have a buddy who is,,,Might save a few $$ there

No, that is part of the emissions system.
The price can vary widely, but it should be less than $100.
It will not hurt the engine in the short term. The input from the oxygen sensor is used to fine-tune the fuel mixture. The engine might run a bit rough. Over a week or more, it could mess up your spark plugs, but for a little while it shouldn't be a major problem.

Wasn't covered on my Santa Fee.
It's not considered power train.

Every vehicle has these sensored so stop worrying about your Dodge. The problem is not so much the sensors, it's more of where they are located.
Some manufacturers put them too close to the wheel well so all the mud from the tires keep hitting them and causing problems with them.

You can disconnect them and get ride of the annoying light. Most often than not, the light is a problem with the sensor and not the motor which is wht they installed them in the first place.

I believe this is part of the emission control system and by law, emission control parts are covered for 100,000 miles. You may want to check this out to be for sure, but I believe this is correct.

Good luck

it wont hurt your engine for now.

id imagine that would be covered under warrenty. Its not a wear item, and its not something youd have broken, and its part of the drivetrain (or the electronics of it), so i cant see why they wouldnt.
