I thought you conservatives were good christians, but only when it comes to limiting the rights of others I guess. Do you think that welfare is the good life? If you paid your employees more they wouldn't have to collect it to buy food for their children. It makes me mad that you would rather take care of Exxon than a family that needs the money to survive, it's mostly people who were injured or crippled and can't work, or single mothers trying to make it, maybe she got away from an abusive partner, or maybe he left, but all you talk about is the small percentage who abuse the system

In the bible it also says help them who help themselves. Most of the people on welfare are not people that are crippled, or can't work. It is people that will not work. The government should put a restriction on welfare. Let's say you can only be on welfare for maybe 6 months. That is MORE than time to get yourself back up, and on your own 2 feet. The conservatives, are tired of giving welfare to people that do not deserve it. Why should i work my tail off, just so someone can sit at home? It isn't fair! The single mother, or crippled, or the other small percent that just can't work for any reason, there are other programs out there for them. It's not just food stamps. You also have S.S

If they raise minimum wage...which they are. It only hurts us. The single mothers of the world still can't live off of 20,000 a year. NO way! But, since wage went up, so does everything else.

You do not get nothing for nothing. Everything worth having is worth working for!

Ah, I knew it would come -- justifying government encroachment in the name of the Savior. I don't think Jesus meant that people should be forced to help others, which is what happens today. People are forced to pay taxes, an inordinate amount of which goes -- well, to the politicians' pockets, but that's not my point -- to those truly or supposedly in need of it. Think about Jesus's other teachings: I don't recall him saying that one shall give to those who beg of you because one is told to. In the light of his other teachings, I would say that the call to give to the needy is a request, not a mandate. Sorry if that sounds cold and harsh, but that's the way it is.

I agree, however, about the Exxon example -- but only about Exxon. Why can't a big company like that take care of itself? Why does it need subsidies? Cut off the government support for businesses (even those that would tank -- supply and demand) and give the money back to the people, where it belongs.

I'm not Christian so I'll leave the theology to others. As I'm sure you have read, several studies have shown that conservatives are far more charitable than liberals. Liberals are only generous with other people's money. Conservatives are more generous with their own money.
Conservatives. particularly religious connservatives ARE putting their money where their faith is.

IF you hand it out to people they come to expect it. I know of people who became disabled and they get it handed to them. Job retraining if you get disabled at work. Even the government is getting into it. If a soldier goes to war and gets his arms blown off his former employer has to give him his job back, even if he cant do it. that is crazy.
