Unfortunately for you the Inspiron 1200 uses the 910GML chipset, which only supports the Celeron M processor, so you would be unable to upgrade to a Core Duo. Upgrading you chipset would require replacing the whole motherboard, which on a laptop would simply not work. Sorry, but your only upgrade option is to go to a faster Celeron M than the one you have now.

If you bought it within the last your motherboard should support it(check dell.com to see). If were talking about a desktop all the tools come with it. The processor could be anywhere from $100 and up depending on how powerful a one you get.

Only if the motherboard supports a duel core cpu. Duo's have a funny pin set up and won't fit in anything other than a slot made for it.
