Won't a leaf blower move them away for you?

If not, reverse it and vacuum them into a bag.

Believe it or not, there is now a sweetgum ball preventer called Forel® Fruit Eliminator. I would think that at least the the top tier tree companies in your area would be aware of this or a similar product, (I believe there is another similar product called Balls Off) and that they could properly apply one of these controls. I agree with you, they are an infernal hassle!
The tree will need to be sprayed somewhere between March and May, depending where you live in the country, and should cost $100 to $200 per tree for application.

Yeah, it's called a rake! LOL

I grew up with one in the yard, and hated it too! Especially stepping on them--even w/shoes on, you can still twist your ankle on one! lol

The only way we ever got them up was by raking them--they are too heavy for a leaf blower (besides, I was more achy after using the blower than when I used the rake, since the blower was heavier...)

Could always try mowing them, but I think it would make a big mess, and possibly hurt someone if one gets picked up & shot thru the mower discharge...

My leafblower/vac sucks them up with no problem. Kind of a fun [thoomp] sound as they hit the inside of the collector bag.
