The letter "o" stands for many different sounds in both dialects. The pronunciation of vowels is definitely different in both of these dialects. You'll probably have to remember what sounds the "o" stands for in different words. Hopefully you have a dictionary that can help with this.

The pronunciations are not different. The accents merely make it sound different.

Words like 'dog' and 'God' sound different from the way the English pronounce them.
'Dog' can sound like 'dawg' or 'darg'
'God' can sound like 'Gard"
