Yes, What I do every now and then make a CD with the songs that were meaningful to me. I call the CD "The soundtrack of my life" and of course each song relates to a particular event, sad, or happy. Music is wonderful and helps you bring back memories.

Absolutely. I mean, yeah, some songs I just like, current or from "the past". But many times I think of say, High School, when I hear a song from that era. Many of them have words that really mean somthing. I cannot think of an example right at the moment, but they are out there. I also remember songs I liked when my husband and I were first dating. He was not sure about staying in this state, maybe moving away. Lots of Fleetwood Mack songs were on the radio, or I had the "cassettes" (I'm old, I know it) and so many words were like a woman trying to reach her man.
Recently, I attended a company reunion and we had music playing to a slide show of our fond memories (the company was closed after a merger) of the times we were all (400 at the reunion) together. The best song was California by Tupac, whom I had never listened to before. Now I just keep playing it over and over. I don't want the feelings of that great party to end, and the music reminds me of a wonderful night, here in California.

Definitely, certain songs remind me of events from my past. 20/20 or one of those shows used to do "this year in history". They'd tell a bunch of important things that happened in history and the number one song at the time.
I almost always got the year right, because I associated the song with something in particular.
I listen to the music, it's not just background filler.

No special event or person, but the general era of my high school days are brought back by the oldies of the 50s & 60s. Yeah, I'm that old.

I've realized I only enjoy music when it relates to my life! It's a subconcious thing
