turning 13 years old, but not the girly type, doesn't like to buy makeup or shop
likes:
art
music
books (A LOT, HAS THEIRY OWN LIBRARY)
drawing manga
reading manga (not as much)
she's sorta a shy person, not really, but not outgoing, i want to buy her books, but she literally has like every book that comes out recently cause she buys a ton of books from barnes and noble every week, and she has like a $200 b & n giftcard
got any ideas for something that isn't a giftcard, any birthday present ideas? (i wanted to buy her itunes giftcard, but my friend was already buying it for her)

Try offering her an album of art of one of her favorite painters. If she is interested in art, she will love it. I know I would. Good luck!

Buy her an original piece of art work and inspire her! These days kids don't get the chance to own any original piece direct from the artist. Get her something that she'll cherish and then also get her a profile of the artist and the story that went on behind the piece.
One good place to get this type of gifts is through the MAP movement. Check out http://market.myartplot.com
It is the arts and crafts store front for the MyArtPlot (MAP) movement. You basically buy affordable original arts and crafts directly from the artists. I personally believe in what they're trying to do as a movement.

Why not go to an old book store that has books that are out of print? You could get her an amazing book that she doesn't have, and would be amazed that you got it for her.You can also search on EBAY for antique books.
Another idea is to get her some beautiful things to draw with, and a large tablet on which to do her drawing.
Maybe include a few art classes for her. Or just the classes.
I hope I helped.

a Journal is good; shoot, wish I had what she had to get the books as they come out; check out The Book Lovers Diary, where she can list every book she has read; she might geta kick out of that; Also at 13, I was reading "The Diary of Anne Frank", Judy Blume, and kinda graduating to adult literature. what are her musical tastes? perhaps a cd of her favorite group.

What about making her imprinted bookplates to put in her books. You could make a design that you think she'd like. Be sure to put her name on it - something like "from the library of Susan Day, my friend and book lover." Use a computer program to design them and you could print them out on label sheets.

You could get her a nice sketch book and supplies like charcoal and good drawing pencils, and maybe a good how-to book on manga, or something, maybe a calligraphy book, I don't know...

You could prepurchase the upcoming Harry Potter. Or how about moving her up into something a bit more adult, like Dickens? It may seem a bit daunting, but I'd recommed Great Expectations (I mean, really, if a kid can get through Harry Potter, a kid can get through Great Expectations). If she truly likes to read, she'll be absorbed.

I would meet your friend for some window shopping. Tell her that you need to pick out a present for yourself and would like her advice. Listen carefully to her suggestions. Often people suggest what they themselves would like to have. This is not always correct, but it could give you some interesting ideas to work from. And if she does not like it, you could always keep it for yourself and give her something else. Good luck!

well, I guess you could buy her something artsy, like a drawing kit, or if she plays a musical instrument, buy her some music. Something Else you could do is take her shopping, and buy what she want, as long as it's under a certain price.
